About the Consortium
Driving climate action through world-class ecosystem modeling and critical soil data
Newly established platform advancing ecosystem models
A growing community of research, nonprofit, and commercial entities
Fostering global cross-sector collaborations
Advancing Ecosystem Models & Critical Soil Data
The Ecosystem Modeling and Data Consortium (EMDC) is a pioneering initiative aimed at serving as a robust platform for ecosystem models and soil data.
We foster deep cross-sector collaborations between research institutions, nonprofits, and for-profit organizations worldwide. By connecting these diverse stakeholders, we enable rigorous soil carbon and GHG accounting for commercial entities, policy groups, and producer-facing organizations.

Facilitate Access, Develop Tools, Enable Soil Carbon and GHG Accounting
- Facilitate access to models and data for research and industry
- Further develop ecosystem modeling tools
- Enable rigorous soil carbon and greenhouse gas accounting

A Journey of Collaboration
Building a Collaborative Platform
The concept of the Consortium was born out of a desire to provide a unified ‘open access’ portal to key models and data resources. These digital assets are in high demand by stakeholders across research, NGOs, and private industry.
By providing quantification and certification capabilities, the EMDC supports rigorous measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems critical to global carbon markets.
The FFAR Grant Success
A defining moment for the Consortium was the recently awarded FFAR grant. This crucial accomplishment provides support for our activities over the next three years, enabling us to welcome members from diverse sectors.
This funding requires a one-to-one match from membership-derived revenues, aligning with our commitment to build a sustainable, science-led framework for navigating future climate challenges and capitalizing on emerging soil-health opportunities.
